Industrial Painter (Automotive Manufacturing): Applying and inspecting automotive coatings on refuse truck bodies with an accent on electrostatic and air-assist spray painting, paint mixing, and equipment maintenance. Location: Dodge Center, Minnesota, United States; onsite, 2nd shift

Salary: $20.00–$28.34 per hour based on experience, plus a $2.00 per hour 2nd-shift differential

McNeilus, an Oshkosh company, designs and manufactures refuse truck bodies for waste collection fleets.

What you will do

  • Prime, paint, and touch up vehicles and parts using electrostatic and air-assist spray equipment, brushes, and other automotive paint application tools.
  • Mix paints and adjust colors, formulas, chemicals, viscosity, and consistency; flush tanks, hoses, and spray guns during color changes.
  • Sand, wash, condition, and perform light bodywork on parts before painting.
  • Inspect parts throughout the paint process to verify quality specifications and maintain a safe, clean work area.
  • Disassemble, clean, repair, adjust, and reassemble painting equipment, including pumps, heaters, tanks, and spray guns.
  • Train and cross-train team members and complete hazardous waste handler training under EPA RCRA requirements.

Requirements

  • At least one year of applicable experience.
  • Ability to read checklists, paint codes, safety logs, and job safety analyses.
  • Ability to paint complete bodies or parts kits to required DPU targets and perform at least 50% of the paint process.
  • Ability to start training with touch-up work and train new team members.
  • High school diploma or GED is not required.

Nice to have

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Automotive paint experience.
  • Willingness to train in multiple areas and progress toward Painter II.
