TL;DR
Automation Engineer IV (Manufacturing Automation): Designing, building, and deploying custom automation equipment and tooling for HID manufacturing with an accent on mechanical, electrical, controls, and system-level integration. Focus on developing hybrid automation solutions, troubleshooting production equipment, and managing the prototype-to-production lifecycle.
Location: Austin, Texas, United States; onsite manufacturing and shop-floor work. Travel required: 0–10%.

What you will do
- Design, build, and deploy custom automation equipment and tooling from concept through production.
- Develop and integrate mechanical, electrical, controls, sensors, actuators, motion, vision, and safety systems.
- Modify commercial or internal base equipment with custom features, add-ons, and performance improvements.
- Own prototyping, proof-of-concept builds, validation, production handoff, and post-launch optimization.
- Troubleshoot equipment and system-level issues, support on-site production debugging, and resolve early-life problems.
- Collaborate with Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Production, and suppliers to create robust and scalable solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is desired.
- 7+ years of engineering equipment development experience.
- Hands-on experience designing, building, modifying, and troubleshooting automation equipment in manufacturing or production.
- Experience translating operational problems into practical automation solutions and implementing prototypes through production systems.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical system design, automation controls, sensors, actuators, motion systems, industrial safety, and technical documentation.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with Operations, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, and external suppliers.
Nice to have
- Experience with vision systems.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, or process optimization.
