Staff Software Engineer, Fleet Optimization (C++)

Location: On-site in Mountain View or San Francisco, California

Salary: $251,000–$310,000 USD per year, plus eligibility for an annual bonus, equity incentive plan, and company benefits.

What you will do

• Develop algorithms, design systems, and implement software for problems spanning computer science, optimization, and fleet management.
• Instrument systems and analyze complex datasets to troubleshoot behavior, evaluate hypotheses, and assess counterfactual scenarios.
• Evaluate optimization and forecasting systems, including input sensitivity, output fidelity, and interactions with automated and human systems.
• Build, operate, and own mission-critical tools and systems for continuous fleet optimization.
• Collaborate with Depot Operations, Product, UX, Data Science, and Engineering teams as operational needs evolve.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 5+ years of direct coding experience, preferably in backend or infrastructure development.
• Professional experience with C++ and secondary Python experience.
• Experience building and analyzing quantitative software systems involving algorithmic optimization, machine learning, or large-scale data analytics.

Nice to have

• Experience with dynamics, optimization, control systems, operations research, or multidimensional algorithmic systems.
• Familiarity with Google infrastructure such as Flume, Borg, Protocol Buffers, or OnePlatform, or equivalent technologies.
• Experience with operations tooling, developer productivity, or developer tools.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams and nontechnical stakeholders.
• Strong bias for action.
