Software Engineer (Traffic)

Location: Hybrid work from an engineering hub in San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, or New York, United States.

Salary: $130,600–$192,000, $159,800–$235,000, or $193,800–$285,000 USD annually, depending on level and work location. Additional equity grants may be available.

What you will do

• Design and build high-RPS, latency-sensitive distributed systems for the Traffic platform.
• Develop and operate traffic infrastructure supporting communication across thousands of services and multiple regions.
• Work on Envoy data planes, xDS control planes, proxyless architectures, and ingress systems.
• Troubleshoot production issues, lead incident investigations, and maintain service-level agreements.
• Collaborate with platform and product engineers to deliver features and solve infrastructure problems.
• Improve operational capabilities and productivity through automation and AI coding tools while participating in the on-call rotation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in infrastructure, networking, or platform engineering.
• Professional experience with Go, C++, Python, or Rust.
• Experience with AWS and Kubernetes.
• Background debugging high-QPS or latency-sensitive systems.
• Ability to work independently and solve problems in ambiguous, challenging environments.
• Proficiency using AI coding tools across the software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, monitoring, and release.

Nice to have

• Experience with Envoy, Istio, Linkerd, xDS, or control-plane architectures.
• Strong networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, HTTP, HTTP/2, gRPC, and load balancing.
• Experience building RPC frameworks or client-side networking libraries.
• Experience with AWS networking primitives, Terraform, GitOps, ArgoCD, Helm, or Atlantis.
