Staff Software Engineer, Payments (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco, United States; hybrid schedule with in-office work required 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays

Salary: $182,000–$228,000 annual base salary, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Build and evolve scalable distributed microservices across product engineering, core services, and platform teams.
• Decompose the legacy monolith and extract payment and billing functions into independently deployable services.
• Own critical Billing, Invoicing, and Payments capabilities for the marketplace.
• Write maintainable, high-quality code; conduct testing, code reviews, and deployment activities.
• Improve architecture and application design, including diagnostic and issue-resolution tools.
• Provide technical guidance, documentation, and input on architectural decisions.

Requirements

• 8–10+ years of experience shipping high-scale production code.
• Fluency in at least one language such as Java, Kotlin, Python, Go, or C.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, databases, distributed systems, and search.
• Experience with logging, monitoring, and alerting systems and tools.
• Strong communication skills for explaining complex technical concepts to designers, support, and engineers.
• Ability to work in the San Francisco office at least 3 days per week on the specified hybrid schedule.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience building and scaling Payments and Billing systems.
• Experience developing FinTech solutions in a growing startup environment.
