What you will do
- Maintain, enhance, and modernize database-driven applications and APIs for a national library support system.
- Develop scalable backend services and integrations using Python, Django, GraphQL, REST APIs, and relational databases.
- Apply AI techniques to extract structured information from diverse scientific publications.
- Evaluate legacy applications and define migration and technology-refresh strategies with Systems Analysts and Project Coordinators.
- Manage development workflows with Git and GitHub and maintain containerized applications using Docker.
- Support Linux-based development, web standards, Agile delivery, customer service, and cross-functional collaboration.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of professional experience developing enterprise applications with database technologies including SQL Server and MySQL.
- Extensive experience with Python, Django, GraphQL, REST APIs, Linux command-line environments, Git, GitHub, Docker, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
- Expert knowledge of modern web standards, HTML, XHTML, and CSS.
- Experience applying AI to extract structured information from scientific publications and modernizing legacy systems.
- At least 2 years of experience with open-source technologies and with Section 508 conformance testing and remediation.
- Practical experience meeting WCAG 2.x AA or higher, knowledge of U.S. Web Design Standards and the USDA Digital Strategy Playbook, plus strong communication and customer service skills.
