Staff Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Lehi, Utah, United States — hybrid, with office attendance Monday–Wednesday

What you will do

• Write production-grade backend code focused on performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Guide backend architecture standards, service boundaries, and design patterns.
• Design and ship services, APIs, data flows, and next-generation backend systems.
• Build infrastructure and workflows for production LLM-based and agentic features.
• Identify and resolve performance, scalability, and reliability issues across backend services.
• Mentor engineers and strengthen testing, observability, deployment, and operational practices.

Requirements

• 10+ years of backend software development experience, including staff-level or equivalent senior technical scope.
• Experience designing and shipping scalable backend systems in SaaS or similarly complex product environments.
• Strong knowledge of service-oriented design, event-driven systems, and domain-driven design.
• Deep proficiency in Python, Java, Go, or a comparable backend language.
• Experience with REST, GraphQL, gRPC, cloud infrastructure, containerized systems, CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps practices.
• Experience integrating AI or LLM capabilities into production applications and mentoring engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience in high-growth SaaS environments or during major platform evolution.
• Familiarity with vector databases, embeddings pipelines, model-serving infrastructure, or related AI platform components.
• Experience with data privacy, compliance, or multi-region considerations.
• Experience partnering with architects or senior engineers on platform-wide technical direction.
