Senior Software Developer (Python/Java)

Location: NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland, United States, and/or remote

What you will do

• Build robust, performant, user-facing web applications in Python and Django for millions of daily users.
• Develop and ship functionality for user interaction and scientific data backends using modern APIs and frameworks.
• Support Human Variation products including dbSNP, dbVAR, ALFA, and dbGaP on FHIR.
• Define development tasks, follow delivery schedules, and comply with organizational policies and procedures.
• Deliver responsive, accessible, mobile-friendly code with automated testing, building, and deployment.
• Collaborate within an agile product team under the guidance of the Technical Program Manager and Technical Lead.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• At least 3 years of software development experience in a Linux environment.
• At least 3 years of experience with Java, Python, SQL, and SQL databases.
• Experience integrating applications with large SQL databases and working with highly available, high-traffic web applications.
• Experience with XML, JSON, CSV, CI/CD pipelines, unit testing, integration testing, regression testing, and Git or SVN.
• Strong written and verbal communication, teamwork, troubleshooting, and risk mitigation skills.
