Staff Firmware Engineer (Embedded Linux)

Location: Niwot, Colorado, United States; hybrid with in-office work approximately 50% of the time

Salary: $150,000–$165,000 per year

What you will do

• Develop embedded firmware for advanced instruments across the full product lifecycle.
• Lead or participate in Agile Scrum work involving communications interfaces, GUI interfaces, and particle-counting code.
• Discover, clarify, prioritize, and document business, customer, and technical requirements.
• Architect reusable solutions using object-oriented design in C++ or Rust.
• Improve firmware development processes and tools to increase quality and efficiency.
• Provide technical leadership through design reviews, mentoring, training, and cross-functional collaboration.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
• At least 10 years of embedded firmware development experience and at least 10 years as a technical lead or in a similar role.
• Strong C++ or Rust skills, object-oriented design experience, and application-level Embedded Linux development experience.
• Experience with Agile environments, including requirements gathering and authoring, Scrum Master or Product Owner responsibilities, version control, and bug tracking.
• Experience with cybersecurity, schematic diagrams, engineering process and tool improvement, and mentoring engineers.
• Ability to work in the hybrid Niwot office/lab/manufacturing environment approximately 50% of the time.

Nice to have

• Certified Scrum Master or Product Owner.
• C programming experience and expertise with Git, Jira, DevSuite, Jama, or similar tools.
• Qt, Linux Kernel, driver development, ARM-based SoC firmware, TCP/IP, WiFi, and Bluetooth protocol experience.
• Experience selecting and applying AI and ML algorithms.
