TL;DR
Sr. Quality Manager - Design Assurance (APQP/DFMEA/Six Sigma): Integrating quality, reliability, and robustness into new product development and manufacturing launches with an accent on design risk mitigation, structured problem solving, and quality system improvement. Focus on leading APQP, institutionalizing PFMEA and Control Plans, coaching manufacturing teams, and resolving complex product quality issues.

Location: Hagerstown, Maryland, United States. The role combines office-based work with physical activity in field and production environments.

Pay range: $118,700–$211,300 per year.

What you will do

  • Integrate quality, reliability, and robustness into product design and development using APQP, DFMEA, and Design for Six Sigma.
  • Partner with engineering to identify and mitigate design risks and ensure product performance meets customer and regulatory expectations.
  • Lead APQP and manufacturing quality activities during product launches, including PFMEA, Control Plans, and Reaction Plans.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex quality issues, leading containment and sustainable resolution through 8D and Six Sigma problem solving.
  • Coach and train manufacturing teams and develop training plans for quality tools and structured problem solving.
  • Provide strategic guidance to manufacturing quality and institutionalize quality best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in operations management, engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of related work experience.
  • Hands-on experience with design for reliability, design for robustness, or Design for Six Sigma.
  • Experience deploying quality improvements in new product development and managing continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, project management, prioritization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work across office, field, and production environments, including standing, walking, climbing stairs, moderate lifting up to 50 pounds, and exposure to varying temperatures or noise levels.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in reliability engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
  • Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
  • Strong business acumen and experience managing large teams in a continuous improvement culture.
