Substation Civil Engineer

Location: Hybrid, possibly remote; travel for relevant site visits may be required, up to 10%.

What you will do

• Design site layouts, grading, drainage systems, foundations, structures, and supports for substation and switchyard projects.
• Support projects involving wind, solar, battery energy storage, and standalone electrical infrastructure from conception through construction and commissioning.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design activities, schedules, budgets, quality requirements, and applicable engineering standards.
• Prepare drawings, technical reports, calculations, progress reports, compliance documentation, and project records.
• Review topographic surveys, geotechnical reports, and vendor drawings for constructability and compliance.
• Provide construction-phase support through RFI responses, submittal reviews, and field observations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Engineer-in-training registration or FE certification is required; Professional Engineer registration is preferred.
• At least two years of relevant civil engineering experience in substation, utility, renewable energy, or related infrastructure projects.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents, drawings, and prints and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Competence with Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD; experience with Civil3D, Bluebeam, Hydraflow Hydrographs, Inventor, RISA, or LPILE is beneficial.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report required; occasional travel and work outside the regular schedule may be required.

Nice to have

• Five or more years of experience for Engineer III classification.
• Professional Engineer registration.
• Experience serving as a civil discipline lead or mentoring junior engineers and designers.
• Experience with Bluebeam, Hydraflow Hydrographs, Civil3D, Inventor, RISA, or LPILE.
