Civil Engineering Specialist (Transportation)

Location: Hybrid work in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with flexibility to be located in Richmond, Virginia

Compensation Range: $99,431.03–$113,635.46 annually

What you will do

• Support civil and transportation design plans for transit, roadway, bus rapid transit, bike/pedestrian, accessibility, and multimodal infrastructure projects.
• Prepare drawings, sketches, calculations, reports, specifications, cost estimates, and construction documents.
• Assist with horizontal and vertical alignments, typical sections, cross sections, ADA improvements, and corridor layouts.
• Coordinate with roadway, transit, drainage, traffic, structural, environmental, and construction disciplines.
• Apply VDOT, local agency, AASHTO, ADA, and other applicable design standards.
• Participate in project meetings, site visits, client coordination, scheduling, budgeting, submittals, and quality reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Approximately 3–5 years of transportation, roadway, transit, or civil infrastructure design experience.
• Experience supporting transportation plans, specifications, estimates, technical reports, and construction document production.
• Familiarity with VDOT roadway standards, local agency criteria, AASHTO guidance, ADA requirements, and transportation design practices.
• Proficiency with Bentley MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and/or AutoCAD/Civil3D.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills for multidisciplinary transportation and transit projects.

Nice to have

• Engineer-in-Training certification.
• OpenRoads experience and interest in pursuing a Professional Engineer license.
