Freight Rail Intern (Rail Engineering)

Location: Kansas City, Missouri, United States. The position may require travel and field work within the U.S.

What you will do

• Apply standard engineering techniques to freight railroad track, structures, and supporting facility designs.
• Assist senior engineers with checking drawings and calculations.
• Develop material lists and calculate quantities for project work.
• Review construction submittals and use specialized engineering software.
• Participate in mentoring and young professionals programs.
• Travel to project sites and perform field work within the U.S. as needed.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate engineering program.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Basic Microsoft Office skills.
• Commitment to active participation in an employee-owned culture.

Nice to have

• Two or more years completed toward an engineering degree and a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
• Interest in the freight railroad and/or transit industry.
• Local Kansas City candidates are preferred.
