Associate Counsel, Subrogation - Hudson/Essex/Passaic, NJ (Remote) (Insurance Defense)

Location: Remote, associated with New Jersey matters and the hirify.global Staff Counsel office in New Jersey

Annual salary: $118,900–$186,550

What you will do

• Defend arbitrations and lawsuits filed in New Jersey and handle other first-party insurance defense matters.
• Research applicable law and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Provide guidance to the Claims Department on coverage, medical necessity, causation, damages, and claim value.
• Prepare and handle arbitration submissions and examinations under oath.
• Defend assigned matters at trial or dispositive hearings.
• Travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree required.
• Admission to the New Jersey Bar is required.
• Must be licensed and in good standing to practice law in New Jersey and maintain applicable licensing and CLE requirements.
• 2–6+ years of litigation experience.
• Strong legal writing, organization, prioritization, multitasking, conflict-resolution, and communication skills.
• Ability to learn and apply substantial technical and procedural information.

Nice to have

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance defense litigation or subrogation experience.
• Professional communication experience in person, by telephone, and in written correspondence or email.
