Workers' Compensation Counsel

Location: Fully remote, based in the San Diego area, California, United States. Travel is required as needed for court events, depositions, appointments, and business needs.

Salary: $106,300–$175,400 annual base salary, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Handle a caseload of predominantly low- to moderate-complexity workers' compensation and insurance defense matters from inception through trial, hearing, and appeal.
• Develop litigation strategies, try cases to verdict, and negotiate resolutions.
• Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other legal documents.
• Attend hearings, trials, depositions, court events, and other appointments independently.
• Provide case analysis and handling recommendations to insured clients, claims partners, and business partners.
• Advise and train claims partners and clients while maintaining strong internal and external relationships.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree from an accredited law school.
• At least 2 years of experience as a practicing attorney; 3+ years of insurance defense litigation experience is preferred.
• Active license in good standing to practice law in the states where representation is required.
• Experience independently handling cases through trial or hearing and appeal, including hearings, dispositive motion arguments, depositions, or other court proceedings.
• Strong legal research, persuasive legal writing, oral advocacy, communication, negotiation, decision-making, and case-management skills.
• Ability to travel to required court proceedings and appointments; a valid driver's license may be required depending on location.
