TL;DR
Principal Power Design Engineer (AI Hardware): Designing and validating high-current power delivery systems for high-performance AI compute hardware with an accent on multi-phase voltage regulators, point-of-load converters, and power integrity. Focus on lab characterization of transient response, efficiency, thermal behavior, and noise, plus debugging power delivery across board, package, silicon, firmware, and system interactions.

Location: Palo Alto, United States; hybrid

Salary: $160,000–$240,000 per year plus meaningful equity, benefits, and 401(k).

What you will do

  • Own schematic design for multi-phase buck regulators, point-of-load converters, and power sequencing circuitry.
  • Select power components and define placement, routing, decoupling, and high-current power-path constraints.
  • Collaborate with package engineering on power delivery at socket and package interfaces.
  • Lead laboratory validation of VRM efficiency, loop stability, DC IR drop, thermal behavior, ripple, noise, and transient response.
  • Characterize power rails with oscilloscopes, electronic loads, network analyzers, thermal cameras, and related equipment.
  • Partner with SI/PI, package, hardware, firmware, and systems teams to debug power integrity issues across the complete platform.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience designing high-current, multi-phase DC-DC regulators for ASICs, GPUs, processors, accelerators, or comparable compute platforms.
  • Experience designing power hardware for systems with 500W+ devices or similar high-current requirements.
  • Deep knowledge of board-level power delivery networks, decoupling, power sequencing, transient response, and voltage regulation.
  • Hands-on experience with schematic capture and layout oversight for complex power delivery systems, preferably with Cadence Allegro or Concept.
  • Strong laboratory validation skills and experience with SPICE-based time-domain circuit simulation or similar workflows.
  • Ability to collaborate in a fast-moving engineering environment.

Nice to have

  • Experience with power delivery for AI accelerators, GPUs, networking or switch ASICs, and high-performance server platforms.
  • Knowledge of power integrity effects on SerDes, PCIe, Ethernet, CXL, or other sensitive high-speed interfaces.
  • Experience validating systems under dynamic AI inference or high-utilization workloads.
  • Exposure to package-level power delivery, socket interfaces, or board/package co-design.
  • Experience automating laboratory validation with Python or similar scripting languages.
