Senior Legal Project Manager

Location: Based in New York City or Washington, D.C.

Annual compensation: $200,000–$230,000, depending on qualifications and operational considerations.

What you will do

• Lead a complex portfolio of high-value legal matters, coordinating timelines, budgets, resources, priorities, and delivery performance.
• Act as a senior contact for key clients, providing portfolio updates, strategic insights, and advisory recommendations.
• Develop matter plans with milestones and deliverables for complex and high-stakes engagements.
• Manage resources, forecast demand, advise on staffing, and coordinate with partners, client legal operations teams, vendors, Finance, Technology, and other departments.
• Track budgets, forecast trends, assess profitability, prepare dashboards and executive reports, and develop risk mitigation strategies.
• Mentor Legal Project Managers and Analysts and contribute to the firm’s LPM methodology, tools, and best practices.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of matter and/or portfolio management experience within a law firm.
• Demonstrated experience independently managing large, complex matters and portfolios within a defined client or practice group.
• Experience mentoring, coaching, or supervising junior project management professionals and leading initiatives with minimal oversight.
• Advanced Excel skills, including data analysis, financial modeling, and insightful reporting.
• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence senior partners and executive-level client stakeholders.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Agile or Waterfall project management methodologies.
• Experience with MS Project or Asana.
• PMP or equivalent certification.
