TL;DR
Technical Program Manager, Optical Payload Software – TeraWave (Aerospace): Leading end-to-end development of flight and manufacturing test software for free-space optical communication payloads and ground terminals with an accent on integrated planning, cross-functional technical integration, and optical systems requirements. Focus on managing complex software programs from concept through production, driving architecture trades and risk mitigation, and coordinating software, hardware, systems, manufacturing, and operations teams.

Location: Greater Seattle Area, United States. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, U.S. permanent residents, refugees, or individuals granted asylum.

Base pay for Washington applicants: $145,188–$203,263.20 annually. Other site ranges may differ.

hirify.global develops reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems and is developing TeraWave, a multi-orbit satellite communications network using optically interconnected satellites.

What you will do

  • Own planning, scheduling, execution, budgets, resources, and forecasting for optical payload software development.
  • Maintain integrated master schedules, identify critical paths, and manage dependencies across software, hardware, and systems teams.
  • Lead program reviews, milestone tracking, risk mitigation, issue resolution, and executive-level status reporting.
  • Integrate software, optical, mechanical, and electrical disciplines while driving architecture trades, design decisions, and requirements decomposition.
  • Coordinate software integration with hardware and systems teams and ensure terminal performance and manufacturing test requirements are met.
  • Align stakeholders across engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, test, operations, leadership, and customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, optical engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in software or hardware development programs and 3+ years in TPM, program management, or systems engineering leadership.
  • Experience managing complex software development programs through the full lifecycle, from concept through production.
  • Working knowledge of optical systems, including free-space optics, fiber optics, photonics, or similar technologies, and manufacturing test requirements.
  • Proficiency with scheduling tools such as MS Project or Smartsheet.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with laser communication terminals, lidar, or electro-optical systems.
  • Space, aerospace, or defense software and hardware development experience.
  • PMP certification or equivalent.
  • Experience with agile or hybrid development methodologies.
