TL;DR
Technical Program Manager, USG Space Relays (Aerospace): Leading end-to-end technical execution of multi-spacecraft government relay programs from concept maturation through production, launch, and on-orbit demonstration with an accent on systems engineering, requirements flow-down, and verification planning. Focus on managing technical baselines, formal government review gates, RF compatibility testing, and mission operations for Ka-band space-to-space relay services.

Location: San Francisco, United States. U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or protected-individual status is required for ITAR/EAR compliance. Active Secret/TS clearance and eligibility to obtain a TS/SCI clearance are required.

Base salary: $145,000–$185,000 USD per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Lead end-to-end technical execution of multi-spacecraft USG relay programs across concept maturation, production, ground network deployment, launch, and on-orbit demonstration.
  • Develop and maintain the Integrated Master Schedule and track technical performance metrics, including RF link margins, spacecraft mass and power margins, latency, and pointing accuracy.
  • Prepare, deliver, and close formal customer milestone reviews, including System Design Reviews, Demonstration Readiness Reviews, and Demonstration Performance Validation Reviews.
  • Own systems engineering and technical baseline management, flowing down government requirements, mission CONOPS, and ground-service interfaces into segment- and unit-level requirements.
  • Lead verification and validation across space, ground, and operations segments, including environmental compliance, RF compatibility testing, and evidence for Authority to Connect.
  • Coordinate with program, technical, systems engineering, space segment, ground segment, and mission operations leads through launch, GEO injection, commissioning, and customer service operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, electrical, mechanical, systems engineering, computer science, physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • 7+ years of technical program management, project management, or systems engineering leadership in aerospace, defense, or commercial space systems.
  • Experience leading requirements flow-down, ICD development, technical budget tracking, trade studies, and end-to-end V&V campaigns for complex spaceflight systems.
  • Experience managing U.S. Government spaceflight programs through formal review gates and deliverable lifecycles, including DRDs or CDRLs.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional engineering teams in an agile, vertically integrated hardware development and manufacturing environment.
  • U.S. work authorization and security-clearance eligibility are required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with NASA SCaN, TDRSS, CSP, NextSTEP, NASA center processes, NASA-STD guidelines, or tailored GEVS qualification.
  • Knowledge of space-to-space RF communications, bent-pipe or regenerative payloads, frequency planning, digital IF/SDR architectures, and dynamic link budgets.
  • Experience with satellite ground stations, automated service scheduling interfaces, spacecraft integration and testing, launch vehicle integration, or on-orbit operations.
  • Familiarity with NIST SP 800-53, CMMC, FedRAMP, CASQ, or USG Authority to Connect processes.
  • Proficiency with Smartsheet, Jira, Confluence, MS Project, and cost account management principles.
