Principal AI Infrastructure Architect

Location: Chicago, United States; flexible living locations across the US with travel as needed

Salary: $190,000–$265,000 USD base annually. Total estimated compensation: $237,000–$357,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Define and implement AI reference architectures, workload patterns, control-plane boundaries, model access, agent execution, and integration decisions.
• Build approved AWS patterns for Amazon Bedrock, networking, identity, logging, data flow, and production deployment.
• Design registration, policy enforcement, usage tracking, attribution, quotas, audit reporting, and exception-handling capabilities.
• Develop reusable infrastructure as code, deployment templates, automation, sandbox environments, service mediation, and operational tooling.
• Lead usage telemetry, token reporting, project attribution, cost-management pipelines, and priority workload onboarding.
• Document reference architectures, implementation patterns, runbooks, and engineering standards while partnering with security, governance, knowledge, and observability specialists.

Requirements

• 10+ years designing and building production cloud, AI, developer, data, or distributed-systems platforms, including 5+ years with AWS or equivalent cloud infrastructure.
• Strong AWS architecture experience across identity, networking, logging, observability, infrastructure as code, security boundaries, and production operations.
• Hands-on engineering skills in at least one modern programming language and infrastructure automation framework.
• Experience using AI tools for platform engineering, automation, code generation, code review, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, or operational improvement.
• Experience with APIs, service integration, secure deployment patterns, event-driven systems, or platform automation.
• Ability to translate business, governance, and risk requirements into secure, auditable, cost-aware, reliable, and reusable engineering patterns.

Nice to have

• Amazon Bedrock or equivalent enterprise model access platform experience.
• MCP or comparable governed tool and service mediation experience.
• Temporal or comparable workflow orchestration experience for durable automation, agent workflows, or long-running AI operations.
• Experience with sandboxed execution, coding agents, secure agent runtimes, developer workspaces, or token and cost telemetry.
• Experience with regulated or client-confidential workloads.
