Senior Relay Engineer (Power Systems)

Location: Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, United States. The role involves work in office, warehouse, and shop environments, occasional travel to customer sites and vendors, and exposure to indoor and outdoor industrial and electric utility facilities.

What you will do

• Create construction package design-basis drawings, including relay single lines, three-lines, schematics, logic diagrams, and physical layouts.
• Develop bills of material, technical proposals, cost estimates, and control house general arrangements.
• Design, configure, test, and document protective relays, relay/control panels, protection systems, control systems, and SCADA configurations.
• Develop and administer functional acceptance test plans and procedures for integrated building and relay panel systems.
• Lead or support production-facility and customer-site testing of protective relay and control schemes using test equipment.
• Lead small project teams as the Lead Responsible Engineer or Project Manager and review internal and external engineering packages.

Requirements

• Five years of relay and engineering experience, including experience leading teams or managing projects.
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, preferably focused on power or protection and controls.
• Experience with microprocessor relays, devices, and controllers, including programming, testing, and interfacing with protection and control equipment such as SEL AcSELerator Quickset, GE Enervista, and Easergy.
• Knowledge of coordination and fault study tools and methodologies, standard high-voltage substation equipment, and low-voltage auxiliary equipment.
• Thorough understanding of DNP3, IEC 61850, MMS, GOOSE, and SV communication protocols.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, presentation, organization, collaboration, and customer-service skills; ability to work around moving equipment and high-voltage systems.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in electrical engineering.
• Three CEUs of formal protective relay application coursework.
• Electrical field engineering experience in an industrial or utility environment.
• Professional Engineering License or FE certification.
• Proficiency with ETAP or SKM and experience performing arc flash studies.
