Senior Substation Engineer

Location: On-site in Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States

Salary: $120,000–$180,000 annually, negotiable based on qualifications, skills, certifications, and location.

What you will do

• Design new power substations and upgrade existing facilities from 12kV to 500kV.
• Develop project scopes, work breakdown structures, schedules, budgets, resource plans, proposals, and estimates for complex multi-discipline and EPC projects.
• Lead the preparation and review of substation layouts, foundations, conduit systems, grounding plans, control building drawings, specifications, studies, and material lists.
• Manage project execution, vendors, consultants, contractors, risks, obstacles, and client communications.
• Lead, mentor, and manage engineers and designers, including goal setting, performance review support, and recruiting participation.
• Ensure adherence to accepted engineering practices, safety standards, and the QA/QC program.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• At least 8 years of direct substation physical and electrical engineering experience.
• Professional Engineering license in Michigan or the ability to obtain licensure within 3 months.
• Experience with MicroStation, AutoCAD, relay settings, SCADA, DFR, and RTU architecture.
• Ability to use Windows-based software, including Word and Excel, and learn design tools such as Milsoft, ETAP, and SKM.
• Strong communication, analytical, problem-solving, collaboration, attention to detail, and quality-focused skills.
