Senior Substation Engineer (High-Voltage Power Systems)

Location: Irvine, California, United States. Preference is given to candidates local to Irvine, CA. Some travel may be required. US citizenship is required due to client contract requirements.

Salary: $138,000–$197,000 per year.

What you will do

• Prepare engineering designs for substation projects ranging from device replacements to large greenfield high-voltage sites.
• Develop protection and control and physical substation designs, including layouts, plans, sections, and details.
• Design grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, conduit systems, and auxiliary AC/DC power systems.
• Prepare associated bills of material and contribute to project execution within the Power Market Sector.
• Apply applicable IEC, IEEE, ANSI, and equipment design standards across projects of varying complexity.
• Collaborate with engineering specialists and support reliable, resilient, and sustainable power infrastructure.

Requirements

• US citizenship is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• At least 10 years of technical design experience with high-voltage switchyard and substation projects.
• Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the position location, such as a PE or P.Eng license.
• Experience with substation, distribution systems, and power facilities design and engineering.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and power-sector design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, PLS CAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, Revit, or CDEGS.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with an electrical emphasis.
• Experience with projects up to 765kV.
• Previous work with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
• Consulting or electric utility experience.
