Senior Engineer, High Voltage Development (Renewable Energy)

Location: Louisville, Colorado, United States; hybrid role with part-time telecommuting authorized and 25% travel to site visits and factory inspections.

Salary: $156,354–$159,500 per year, plus annual bonus.

What you will do

• Lead conceptual, preconstruction, and construction-phase engineering for 35–500 kV substations and generation tie lines supporting solar, wind, and BESS projects.
• Develop conceptual designs, scopes of work, cost estimates, general arrangements, single-line diagrams, and bills of materials.
• Manage external engineering consultants and oversee 10%, 30%, and up to 60% high-voltage design packages.
• Perform high-voltage design, substation expansion assessments, technical due diligence, and portfolio risk analysis for greenfield, brownfield, and M&A projects.
• Review EPC bids and design documentation for cost competitiveness, value engineering opportunities, interconnection compliance, and technical risks.
• Coordinate with utilities, ISOs, engineering consultants, contractors, and cross-functional teams on collector substations, gen-tie systems, switchyards, equipment specifications, and factory acceptance testing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field and at least 6 years of experience in high-voltage design or a related field.
• At least 5 years of 35–500 kV substation design experience for renewable plants, from conceptual design through commissioning.
• Experience with generation tie lines, medium-voltage collector systems, utility requirements, LGIAs, ISO specifications, and drawing reviews.
• Experience reviewing EPC bids, performing value engineering, conducting technical due diligence, and assessing project portfolio risks.
• Experience managing Engineers of Record and developing high-voltage design packages in accordance with IEEE, NESC, NFPA, ISO, utility, and owner standards.
• At least 5 years of experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, ETAP, OpenDSS, Google Earth, and Microsoft Suite.
