Chief Engineer - Software (Battery Electric Vehicle Software & Controls)

Location: Hybrid role with remote flexibility; onsite presence required as business needs arise in the Detroit area or hirify.global, Wisconsin. Position is limited to U.S. locations.

Salary: $118,600.00–$204,000.00 per year

What you will do

• Lead the technical roadmap for xEV propulsion controls, embedded software, calibration, and electrical/electronic systems architecture.
• Direct development of traction inverter and electric motor controls, battery management integration, charging, thermal management, drivability, and vehicle control strategies.
• Define system requirements, software architecture, interface specifications, diagnostics, and scalable software-defined vehicle solutions.
• Lead integration of propulsion controls with chassis, braking, ADAS, body electronics, telematics, and related vehicle systems.
• Coordinate cross-functional engineering, validation, integration, supplier, customer, and platform activities while making key technical decisions.
• Coach junior engineers, support budgets and project proposals, and resolve complex technical issues through prototype, pilot, and production support.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
• At least 10 years of related engineering experience.
• Experience with automotive E/E architecture, ECU hardware, sensors, actuators, embedded software, calibration, CAN, UDS, and configuration management.
• Experience designing, developing, validating, and launching light-duty automotive or heavy-truck xEV vehicles.
• Cross-functional experience across the automotive product lifecycle, including vehicle-level validation, launch, and field support.
• Experience with functional safety, cybersecurity, systems engineering, and engineering team leadership.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering.
• Familiarity with Canalyzer, ETAS INCA, Vector CANape, Atlassian Jira, and Jama.
