Sr. Staff Engineer - Cloud Engineering (AWS)

Location: Scottsdale, with hybrid work; comparable positions in San Francisco, Chicago, or New York also follow a hybrid model. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States for any employer.

Base pay: $150,000–$200,000 USD per year for Phoenix, AZ and Chicago, IL, plus eligibility for a discretionary incentive plan and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of AWS cloud-native infrastructure using compute, storage, networking, identity, containers, and managed database services.
• Guide cloud modernization and the migration of mission-critical applications and data from on-premise environments to AWS.
• Architect high availability, disaster recovery, backup, fault tolerance, and operational resilience solutions.
• Drive infrastructure as code, automation, CI/CD, vulnerability management, and configuration compliance improvements.
• Design observability solutions covering logging, metrics, dashboards, tracing, and alerting for distributed systems.
• Lead incident root-cause analysis, influence technical decisions across teams, document standards, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 12 years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, or related roles, including at least 4 years working hands-on with AWS business-critical systems.
• Deep expertise in AWS core services, Kubernetes, container platforms, Docker, and Linux.
• Experience designing large-scale systems and implementing infrastructure as code with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
• Experience with CI/CD, secure engineering, testing, Agile delivery, observability, and compliance controls such as PCI-DSS, SOC 2, or FFIEC.
• United States work authorization is required; visa sponsorship is not available. A background and drug screen are required.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or current AWS or other relevant cloud certification.
• Experience leading multi-team cloud modernization or migration initiatives.
• Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, Splunk, AppDynamics, or container and workload security technologies.
• Programming or scripting experience with Python, C#, Ruby, or Shell.
• Knowledge of ACH/EFT, RTP, FedNow, fintech, banking, payments, or other regulated industries.
