Hydropower Engineering Manager (Electrical Design)

Location: Sacramento, Walnut Creek, or Folsom, California, United States

Compensation: $134,442–$218,250 annually, depending on skills, experience, education, and geographic location.

What you will do

• Lead the strategy, growth, operations, and technical excellence of the Northern California hydropower electrical practice.
• Hire, mentor, and develop technical staff across experience levels.
• Serve as project manager or technical lead for hydropower electrical projects.
• Oversee electrical design plans and specifications, equipment specifications, bid reviews, and site investigations.
• Support installation, testing, commissioning, and startup field activities.
• Coordinate with mechanical, structural, civil, and controls teams while supporting proposals, client relationships, and strategic pursuits.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• At least 10 years of experience in hydropower engineering and design.
• Technical depth in generator protection and controls, excitation systems, governor controls, SCADA/DCS, station service, switchyard/substation equipment, relay settings and coordination, arc-flash, and grounding analysis.
• Strong communication, listening, leadership, organizational, and collaboration skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments.
• Professional registration, license, or certification may be required based on the role.
• Commitment to active participation in an employee-owned culture.

• Consulting experience supporting client relationships and delivering high-quality electrical engineering work.
• Active involvement in IEEE PES, IEEE hydropower working groups, NHA technical committees, or CEATI hydropower electrical task forces.
