Software Engineer I (Embedded)

Location: Parkville, Missouri, United States; primary work environment is in office. Occasional travel to job sites is expected, including potential work on rooftops and around electrical equipment.

What you will do

• Develop embedded OS applications for Yocto, Ubuntu Core, Armbian, and related Linux environments.
• Build efficient, modular, object-oriented software in modern C++.
• Design and maintain software interfaces, APIs, networking protocols, and security protocols.
• Implement brokered messaging with MQTT, AMQP, JMS, and related technologies.
• Develop test methods and applications for system validation, production quality control, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with embedded project engineers and a small development team on HVAC control, telemetry, and building management solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Electronics Engineering preferred.
• 1–2 years of software engineering experience preferred.
• Experience with embedded Linux, ARM architecture, POSIX operating systems, and Windows.
• Knowledge of electrical and electronic systems and the ability to read microprocessor and microcontroller schematics.
• Ability to use a digital multimeter and oscilloscope for system troubleshooting.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel independently to job sites as required.

Nice to have

• Interest in HVAC systems, thermodynamics, control systems, energy efficiency, bare-metal applications, networking, security, and IoT.
• Experience with Git, GitHub, Azure DevOps, Microsoft Teams, and Office software.
