Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: San Francisco, in-office five days a week. Candidates must be based in San Francisco or willing to relocate to the United States.

Salary: $225,000–$275,000 per year

What you will do

• Own cloud infrastructure, third-party vendors, and the systems surrounding them across Railway and AWS.
• Build developer productivity tooling, AI harnesses, and workflows that enable engineering teams to work AI-first.
• Own SRE and production support, including operational discipline, on-call practices, SLAs, and SLOs.
• Work hands-on with a two-person team while expanding it to five or six people over the next three months.
• Build infrastructure, developer productivity, and SRE functions into larger teams over time.

Requirements

• At least two years of line-management experience directly managing teams of six to ten people, or clear readiness to grow into that role.
• Hands-on experience with AWS or GCP and strong database troubleshooting skills.
• Experience operating systems at significant scale, around one million requests per minute or more.
• Ability to troubleshoot databases, networking, compute, Docker, Kubernetes, and related infrastructure.
• Knowledge of on-call practices, SLAs, SLOs, and SRE practices.
• Willingness to remain hands-on while developing into a broader managerial role.

Nice to have

• Experience building developer productivity tooling and AI harnesses for engineering teams.
• Experience building a team from a very small base.
• A hiring network or comfort working closely with recruiters.
• Prior startup experience, especially in a hypergrowth company.
