Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: Fully remote; travel to Los Angeles as needed, usually quarterly and for offsites

Salary: $195,000–$264,500 base annually, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Own the roadmap and delivery for a product pod with 4–6 engineers, a PM, and a designer.
• Build consumer experiences that help people understand available assistance and stay informed throughout the process.
• Improve client intake and ML-based matching systems that connect people with the right lawyers.
• Deliver software for attorneys and the company’s in-house law firm to support consistent case handling.
• Develop AI-native legal products and workflows that replace inefficient manual work.
• Shape team culture and processes while coaching engineers and supporting their career development.

Requirements

• More than one year of experience managing at least three engineers.
• Experience developing senior individual contributors and early-career engineers, including handling difficult performance conversations.
• Experience in a high-performing product organization with strong product managers and designers.
• Ability to operate with ambiguity and limited resources.
• Serious hands-on use of AI coding tools over the past year and a clear view of their effective application.
• Hands-on engineering experience, including writing code, reviewing pull requests, and contributing to architecture decisions.

Nice to have

• Experience hiring and leading engineers during rapid headcount growth.
• Experience with Go, TypeScript, Next.js, Temporal, or GCP.
• Background in legal, healthcare, financial services, or another industry with complex professional workflows.
