Director of Engineering – User Experience (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid role based out of Fremont, California, with occasional office days, regular in-person meetings, company events, and travel. This role is not eligible for remote work in New York City.

Base salary: $231,000–$280,500 annually for California, Washington, and New York; eligible for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Lead multiple engineering teams building customer-facing web and mobile products across discovery, vehicle purchase, delivery, ownership, service, and customer relationship management.
• Own engineering strategy, architecture, roadmaps, prioritization, capacity planning, vendor engagements, and delivery execution for customer experience platforms.
• Deliver mobile vehicle companion capabilities including vehicle access, controls, notifications, charging management, service interactions, and connected experiences.
• Drive digital commerce capabilities such as vehicle configuration, reservations, checkout, financing, trade-in, delivery scheduling, and post-purchase journeys.
• Partner with Product, UX, Marketing, Sales, Analytics, Finance, Operations, Vehicle Engineering, IT, Legal, Privacy, Compliance, Cybersecurity, and external partners.
• Build and develop engineering leaders while improving performance, accessibility, SEO, reliability, observability, automation, developer productivity, and customer experience quality.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field.
• 12+ years of software engineering experience, including leadership of multiple engineering teams or engineering managers in a complex technology organization.
• Strong experience with web front-end development, responsive and interactive web applications, and performant product marketing or e-commerce solutions.
• Familiarity with iOS and Android mobile application frameworks, as well as web and mobile analytics tools.
• Experience leading managers, principal engineers, and senior technical leaders; hiring, mentoring, and scaling high-performing engineering organizations.
• Experience with organizational planning, technology investments, experimentation, A/B testing, analytics, performance engineering, accessibility, SEO, and data-driven decision-making.

Nice to have

• Automotive, e-commerce, or retail platform experience.
• Experience with payments, financing, CRM, ERP, DMS, or order management systems.
• Experience building AI-enabled engineering organizations.
