Sr. Staff Engineer - Digital Assets (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; hybrid work model. Positions in Scottsdale, San Francisco, Chicago, and New York require regular office presence.

Base salary in San Francisco: $180,000–$240,000 USD per year, plus eligibility for a discretionary incentive plan and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead technical strategy, architecture, prototyping, and implementation for cross-border money movement and digital asset settlement systems.
• Define department-wide architectural designs, engineering patterns, coding approaches, and long-term system health practices.
• Resolve complex scalability and reliability challenges across distributed, regulated payment platforms.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, architecture, design, support, and operations teams to deliver business-critical features.
• Review code and technical output across multiple teams, resolve technical conflicts, and improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes.
• Mentor engineers and guide cross-functional teams in building secure, resilient, and compliant payment solutions.

Requirements

• Must be independently eligible to work in the United States for any employer at the date of hire; visa sponsorship is not available.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience, with 12+ years of relevant experience.
• 9+ years of experience developing distributed systems, SaaS, cloud solutions, or microservices, including hands-on Docker experience.
• 8+ years of Java and Spring experience, with proficiency in Maven or Gradle.
• Experience designing large-scale payment or cross-border transaction platforms in regulated environments, including digital asset or stablecoin systems.
• Experience with frontend development using Angular or React, event-driven architecture and messaging frameworks, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, testing, secure coding, SDLC, Agile, Scrum, Lean, and DevOps practices.

Nice to have

• MS or PhD in a relevant field.
• Experience with JavaScript, jQuery, AngularJS, AppDynamics, Kubernetes, or C#, Ruby, Python, and PHP.
• Knowledge of ACH/EFT, RTP, FedNow, or fintech systems.
