Distributed Systems Architect

Location: 100% remote within the United States

Salary: $130,000–$160,000 annually

What you will do

• Lead the design and evolution of large-scale microservices ecosystems.
• Define service decomposition, domain-driven designs, and distributed systems patterns.
• Design distributed data management, APIs, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous messaging.
• Guide resilience, observability, security, and maintainability for production systems.
• Lead architecture initiatives spanning multiple teams and complex technology transformations.
• Operate and evolve high-traffic, latency-sensitive systems on cloud platforms and container infrastructure.

Requirements

• U.S.-based remote work is required.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• Eight or more years of software engineering experience, including several years in architecture roles.
• Deep expertise in microservices design, domain-driven design, and distributed systems patterns.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, container orchestration, service mesh technologies, cloud platforms, and managed services.
• Proficiency in at least one major backend language such as Java, Go, or C#, plus strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to have

• Platform engineering and internal developer platform construction experience.
• Familiarity with Istio, Linkerd, Envoy, or comparable service mesh technologies.
• FinOps and cloud cost optimization experience at scale.
• Public speaking, open-source contributions, or published technical writing.
• Experience in regulated industries with strict compliance requirements.
