TL;DR
Digital Electrical Engineer (Space Hardware): Designing, manufacturing, testing, and deploying highly integrated PCBAs for space communication systems with an accent on high-speed digital circuitry, FPGA-based platforms, and space-grade reliability. Focus on board architecture, SoC bring-up across the boot stack, thermal and power design, and qualification for radiation and other space-environment requirements.

Location: Los Angeles, California, United States; on-site. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful U.S. permanent residents, protected individuals, or eligible to obtain the authorizations required under U.S. export regulations such as ITAR.

Estimated base salary: $130,000–$185,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

  • Design high-speed digital hardware with processors, FPGAs, memory, interfaces, and supporting circuitry.
  • Evaluate board architectures and component selections through engineering trades and analyses.
  • Create schematics and layouts for space-grade PCBs using EDA tools.
  • Bring up and test new designs, including debugging SoC systems across bare-metal, bootloader, and Linux layers.
  • Collaborate with RF, FPGA, software, mechanical, thermal, manufacturing, supply chain, and production test teams from initial design through vehicle integration.
  • Design for performance, thermal dissipation, manufacturing, acceptance, qualification, compliance, and radiation-environment requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or another STEM discipline.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience designing high-speed digital circuitry.
  • Professional experience designing boards with EDA tools such as Altium Designer.
  • Experience designing and debugging Xilinx RFSoC, MPSoC, or equivalent systems.
  • Experience with modeling, simulation, and testing of digital and power electronics.
  • Familiarity with failure mode effects and criticality analysis (FMEA).

Nice to have

  • Experience taking mixed-signal circuit boards from concept through production.
  • Experience with Ethernet, multi-GHz SerDes, DDR4, I2C, SPI, amplifiers, ADCs, DACs, and power supply components.
  • Experience designing power trees with complex sequencing requirements.
  • Experience selecting and monitoring components for radiation environments.
  • Deep understanding of volatile and nonvolatile memory configuration and interfacing.
