Engineering Manager, Platform Engineering

Location: Based in New York City or Washington, D.C.

Annual compensation: $230,000–$300,000.

What you will do

• Lead, coach, hire, and develop a team of platform engineers while managing performance, career growth, retention, and workforce planning.
• Own the Platform Engineering roadmap, prioritization, delivery, risk management, and the team’s planning, review, retrospective, and on-call operating rhythm.
• Guide platform architecture, design and code reviews, engineering standards, and a code-first, everything-as-code culture.
• Improve developer productivity through internal platforms, self-service tools, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, cloud orchestration, and developer portals.
• Ensure reliability, SLOs, incident management, release management, test automation, security, compliance, and operational maturity.
• Partner with engineering, business, IT, security, governance, and vendors on platform investments, budgets, licensing, SLAs, risks, and outcomes.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in platform, DevOps, SRE, or software engineering, including 4+ years managing and developing engineering teams.
• Strong hands-on engineering background with Go or Python, coding, infrastructure as code, cloud platforms, and platform or SRE practices.
• Technical grounding in CI/CD, IaC/GitOps, AWS or Azure, Kubernetes, observability/SRE, platform security, and test automation.
• Experience delivering internal developer platforms or cloud/DevOps capabilities in a global professional services, legal, or regulated environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong delivery management, stakeholder communication, cross-functional collaboration, and people leadership skills.

Nice to have

• ITIL, Lean, Agile, Scrum, or SAFe experience.
• Cloud certifications and prior individual-contributor platform or SRE experience.
• Knowledge of the EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, or ISO/IEC 42001.
• Advanced degree.
