Commercial Counsel, Payments & Merchant Solutions (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid work in Scottsdale, San Francisco, Chicago, or New York; candidates must already be eligible to work in the United States.

Salary: $154,000–$193,000 per year in Phoenix, Chicago, or Washington, DC; $186,000–$232,000 per year in New York or San Francisco. Additional discretionary incentive plan and benefits are available.

What you will do

• Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements for customers, suppliers, merchants, merchant acquirers, payment service providers, technology partners, and other business partners.
• Advise business teams on commercial contracting issues and the application of U.S. and international legal and regulatory frameworks.
• Prepare and maintain contract templates, custom agreements, policies, procedures, guidelines, and playbooks.
• Partner with contract administration, privacy, security, compliance, risk management, and Legal teams to improve contract operations.
• Deliver actionable legal guidance that supports business objectives while protecting systems, data, confidentiality, and risk controls.
• Support M&A activities and supervise junior attorneys, contract personnel, or outside counsel as needed.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and admission to the Arizona bar or another state bar.
• At least eight years of transactional legal experience, preferably primarily in an in-house corporate environment.
• Strong presentation, negotiation, written communication, business judgment, and legal risk assessment skills.
• Experience with contract management processes and CLM tools such as Agiloft, Salesforce, or Coupa.
• Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, prioritize multiple tasks, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• U.S. work authorization for any employer is required; visa sponsorship is not available. A background and drug screen are required.
