Senior Legal Counsel – Banking and Markets Group (Banking)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; hybrid work between the office and home

Salary: $160,100–$272,300 USD per year, plus potential discretionary bonus and equity component.

What you will do

• Advise business partners on private client, professional services, not-for-profit, and commercial credit matters.
• Structure, draft, review, and negotiate secured and unsecured loans, real estate financings, letters of credit, and other banking contracts.
• Provide legal and regulatory advice on deposits, payments, banking products, and new business strategies.
• Advise on federal and state banking regulations, including Regulation U, Regulation O, Rule 144, and legal lending limits.
• Support distressed loan workouts, special assets, restructurings, risk-management initiatives, and banking policies.
• Manage outside counsel and advise committees, working groups, business partners, and other Legal Department members.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience at a nationally recognized law firm or in-house legal department advising financial institutions or clients in relevant areas.
• J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
• Must meet attorney licensing requirements in the jurisdiction where the position is located.
• Extensive experience drafting and negotiating secured and unsecured loan documentation and banking-related contracts.
• Strong legal analysis, written and oral communication, collaboration, relationship-building, and solutions-oriented advisory skills.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

• Experience with distressed loan workouts, real estate lending, or deposit products and services.
• Up-to-date knowledge of emerging legal and regulatory developments affecting banking, lending, payments, and deposits.
