Senior Legal Counsel – Banking and Markets Group (Banking)

Location: Chicago, IL, United States; hybrid work with time split between the office and home

Salary: $160,100–$272,300 USD base pay per year

What you will do

• Advise business partners on private client, professional services, nonprofit, and commercial credit transactions.
• Structure, draft, review, and negotiate secured and unsecured loans, real estate financings, letters of credit, deposits, and payment products.
• Provide legal and regulatory advice on banking laws, including Regulation U, Regulation O, Rule 144, legal lending limits, and related federal and state requirements.
• Support new banking products, business strategies, distressed loan workouts, special assets, restructurings, and risk-management initiatives.
• Draft and review credit and banking policies, standards, and procedures while advising committees and working groups.
• Manage outside counsel and support other members of the Banking and Markets Group and Legal Department.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience at a nationally recognized law firm or in-house legal department advising financial institutions or clients in relevant areas.
• J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
• Attorney licensing requirements must be met in the jurisdiction where the position is located before and after starting employment.
• Extensive experience drafting and negotiating secured and unsecured loan documentation and banking-related contracts.
• Strong legal analysis, written and oral communication, collaboration, relationship-building, and practical risk-management skills.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employment-based visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Experience with distressed loan workouts, real estate lending, or deposit products and services.
• Current knowledge of emerging legal and regulatory developments affecting banking, lending, payments, and deposit products.
