TL;DR
Sr. Director, Global Trade Compliance (Customs, Export Controls, and Sanctions): Leading the global trade compliance vision, governance framework, and risk posture across a multinational manufacturing organization with an accent on customs, export controls, sanctions, classification, licensing, and trade-preference programs. Focus on advising executive leadership, directing audits and investigations, integrating compliance into M&A transactions, and optimizing global landed costs while maintaining audit-ready controls.

Location: Chicago, United States. Candidates must be U.S. Persons under ITAR, meaning U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents.

Salary: $195,800–$283,700 per year.

What you will do

  • Define and lead the global trade compliance strategy, governance framework, risk posture, and enterprise KPIs.
  • Advise executive leadership on trade policy, geopolitical developments, regulatory changes, supply chain disruption, and business risks.
  • Oversee compliance with ITAR, EAR, OFAC, U.S. customs laws, and international customs and trade regimes.
  • Establish controls and provide technical authority for classification, licensing, country of origin, customs valuation, sanctions screening, and recordkeeping.
  • Direct risk assessments, audits, investigations, corrective actions, government inquiries, enforcement matters, and trade compliance activities for M&A transactions.
  • Lead tariff mitigation, Free Trade Agreement programs, data governance, third-party partner oversight, and global team development.

Requirements

  • At least 12 years of progressive experience in global trade compliance, customs, export controls, or regulatory leadership.
  • Experience in a multinational manufacturing, industrial, or professional advisory environment.
  • Demonstrated success designing, scaling, and governing enterprise trade compliance programs across regions and business units.
  • Deep knowledge of international customs, export controls, sanctions, classification, licensing, origin, valuation, and trade-preference programs.
  • Experience advising executives and leading trade compliance due diligence, integration, transformation, and risk assessment for corporate transactions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Supply Chain, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or a related field; U.S. Person status under ITAR is required.
