Senior Risk Engineer – West Central Region

Location: Chicago, IL, US; hybrid work requiring at least three days in the office each week, with full-time onsite work also available

Base salary: $156,000–$246,000 per year, plus potential short- and long-term incentives and benefits.

What you will do

• Act as a strategic risk advisor to underwriters and commercial insurance clients.
• Lead account servicing for large and complex domestic and multinational property accounts.
• Review risk assessments and advise on risk quality, exposure, and preferred risk selection.
• Conduct onsite risk assessments, operations reviews, and risk improvement consultations.
• Prepare loss control, underwriting, and project reports, including loss control specifications and plan reviews.
• Analyze portfolio data, emerging loss trends, and benchmarks while coordinating with underwriting, claims, brokers, and service partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, industrial, chemical, or civil engineering.
• 6–10+ years of relevant property risk engineering experience in the North American commercial insurance market.
• Combined field engineer and account engineer experience managing large, complex commercial accounts.
• Expertise in property construction, fire protection systems, property conservation programs, natural catastrophe exposures, loss expectancies, and business interruption.
• Knowledge of property insurance, loss prevention, data analytics, benchmarking, portfolio risk management, and digital tools.
• Willingness to travel periodically, primarily within the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience across manufacturing, plastics, food, real estate, retail, warehousing, technology, healthcare, hospitality, or other complex occupancies.
• Specialized expertise in chemical, steel, automotive, pharmaceutical, telecom, semiconductor, or forestry sectors.
• Working knowledge of NFPA standards, Factory Mutual data sheets, or similar Highly Protected Risk standards.
• International programs experience, including global fronting, lead risk engineering, and fee-for-service proposals.
