TL;DR
Global Technical Engineering Specialist - Property (Risk Engineering): Developing technical risk engineering guidelines, tools, training, and specialist services for commercial property risks with an accent on complex property questions, plan reviews, emerging risks, and industry standards. Focus on researching issues without established guidance, supporting underwriting and risk engineering teams, and improving technical systems and processes.

Location: Remote across the United States, including Remote-TX, or Toronto, Canada. Occasional travel to client and account meetings and technical conferences is required. The role also requires daily online availability on Teams when working as part of an immediate-access support team.

Base salary: $150,000–$190,000 USD annually. For positions based in Ontario: $110,000–$140,000 CAD annually. The position is also eligible for a bonus.

What you will do

  • Develop technical risk engineering guidelines, bulletins, processes, and tools.
  • Research industry losses, emerging technologies, and emerging property risks.
  • Support complex technical property questions, plan reviews, and issues without established industry guidance.
  • Collaborate with Technical Services, the Chief Underwriting Office, Risk Engineering Leadership, account teams, and underwriters.
  • Lead training and development for risk engineering, underwriting, external clients, and industry organizations.
  • Maintain training and technical guideline libraries and oversee risk engineering tool development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, or equivalent industry knowledge.
  • At least 15 years of highly protected risk, specialized industry, and/or boiler and machinery field experience.
  • Knowledge of commercial property occupancies, including light-hazard and heavy-industrial environments.
  • Ability to review buildings and structures, read risk reports, construction drawings, diagrams, and printed materials.
  • Familiarity with NFPA, FM, and other industry standards.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions with or without established guidelines, communicate effectively, and complete assignments on time.

Nice to have

  • Professional Engineer license, Certified Fire Protection Specialist designation, or similar qualification.
  • Participation in technical and industry organizations such as NFPA and CFPS.
