TL;DR
Senior Field Risk Engineer (Property) (Fire Protection and Property Risk): Conducting commercial property loss prevention surveys and developing solutions for fire, natural catastrophe, construction, and equipment-related hazards with an accent on field inspections, risk analysis, and client consulting. Focus on assessing building construction, sprinkler and water supply adequacy, external exposures, loss estimates, and producing data-driven reports while mentoring less experienced staff.

Location: Remote-DC, United States; primarily office-based collaboration with travel to client facilities, field sites, construction sites, and various offices

Salary: $110,300–$125,000 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus

What you will do

  • Conduct property loss prevention surveys at commercial facilities, including manufacturing sites, university campuses, and other occupancies.
  • Assess building construction, plastics exposure, water supplies, sprinkler systems, occupancy hazards, protection features, and external exposures.
  • Develop fire and natural catastrophe loss estimates and practical loss prevention recommendations.
  • Conduct consultative customer visits, plan reviews, and fire protection equipment testing.
  • Document survey findings in a data-driven reporting application.
  • Provide technical support to underwriters and clients and mentor less experienced staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
  • At least five years of highly protected risk, specialized industry, and/or boiler and machinery field experience.
  • Familiarity with commercial occupancies and the ability to inspect buildings and structures visually and with instruments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work independently, make decisions with or without established guidelines, and collaborate with account engineers and underwriters.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and at least one year of driving experience required.
  • Ability to travel, including approximately 25% overnight travel, and work safely at hazardous, outdoor, elevated, and construction sites.

Nice to have

  • Professional Engineer or Certified Fire Protection Specialist designation.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, diagrams, and printed technical materials.
