TL;DR
Tactical Development Truck Operator (Autonomous Vehicles): Operating Class 8 trucks equipped with self-driving technology to execute test missions, collect engineering data, and evaluate software changes on public roads and closed courses with an accent on safety protocols, technical driving procedures, and real-time data monitoring. Focus on troubleshooting onboard systems, tagging road events, performing sensor and software pre-trip checks, and providing detailed feedback during frequent domestic travel.

Location: Dallas, Texas, United States; onsite work from an hirify.global office is required 5 days per week. The role includes frequent domestic travel of up to 90%, rotating day and night shifts, weekends, and overtime.

Salary: $31.00–$38.50 per hour, plus eligibility for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.

What you will do

  • Operate Class 8 trucks equipped with autonomous vehicle technology while following safety protocols, DOT regulations, and technical driving procedures.
  • Execute test missions on public roads and closed courses to evaluate software changes and collect high-quality data for engineering teams.
  • Work in two-person operations teams, including monitoring real-time data feeds, managing mission software, and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Perform DOT inspections and enhanced pre-trip checks covering sensor calibration and mission software updates.
  • Flag and tag road events such as construction and unusual traffic behavior for later engineering analysis.
  • Provide detailed operational feedback and perform basic troubleshooting with remote guidance from engineers.

Requirements

  • Interstate Class A Commercial Driver’s License and a valid United States driver’s license.
  • United States work authorization is required; candidates must pass DOT physical, medical certification, MVR, and required drug and alcohol testing.
  • At least 25 years of age and a minimum of 3 years of commercial truck-driving experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude for basic vehicle-system troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Proficiency with laptops, tablets, Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets, plus experience using Jira.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, attention to detail, proactive decision-making, collaboration, and willingness to work rotating shifts and travel frequently.

Nice to have

  • Experience in Agile or Scrum environments.
  • Experience with Linux or command-line interfaces.
  • Background in aviation, high-stakes logistics, safety-critical operations, or vehicle development and testing.
  • Experience with high-fidelity mapping tools and procedures.
