TL;DR
Project Engineer III (Energy Efficiency): Leading complex engineering assessments and energy performance studies for Strategic Energy Management programs with an accent on advanced energy modeling, statistical analysis, and industrial systems optimization. Focus on validating savings through multivariable regression and IPMVP-compliant measurement and verification, resolving root-cause performance issues, and mentoring energy engineering staff.

Location: Nashville, Tennessee; candidates must reside within the Tennessee Valley region and travel occasionally throughout the Valley.

What you will do

  • Lead complex engineering assessments for organizations participating in Strategic Energy Management programs.
  • Design, review, and approve multivariable regression models, normalization methods, statistical analyses, and IPMVP-compliant measurement and verification strategies.
  • Advise operational leaders, engineering teams, utilities, and program stakeholders on energy performance, capital planning, and operational improvements.
  • Conduct advanced engineering studies and root-cause analyses involving industrial systems and complex operational interactions.
  • Lead technical QA/QC reviews and improve energy modeling and performance analysis practices.
  • Mentor Energy Engineer I and II staff and represent the program as a technical subject matter expert.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, industrial, chemical, energy, manufacturing, agricultural, or civil engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • 6–10 years of relevant experience in SEM, industrial operations, energy management, manufacturing, utility programs, consulting, facilities, reliability, or continuous improvement.
  • Experience with Energy Management Systems, ISO 50001, PDCA principles, Energy Performance Indicators, and energy culture development.
  • Expertise in industrial systems such as HVAC, steam, compressed air, motors, and controls.
  • Experience with regression analysis, energy modeling, weather and production normalization, advanced statistical modeling, and IPMVP Option C whole-facility M&V.
  • Experience leading QA/QC of savings methodologies and engineering calculations.

Nice to have

  • CEM, CMVP, PE, CEA, CP EnMS, Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt, PMP, or CRL certification.
  • ISO 50001 implementation experience.
  • Strong stakeholder communication, relationship-building, influence, active listening, emotional intelligence, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
