Mechanical Engineer IV - HVAC & Utilities

Location: Huntsville, Alabama, USA; full-time, onsite role.

What you will do

• Design and engineer HVAC, mechanical utility, plumbing, and piping systems across studies, concept design, construction documentation, and administration.
• Manage the mechanical discipline scope, budget, schedules, task planning, and proposal development for complex projects.
• Lead field surveys, site assessments, commissioning and startup activities, construction support, RFI responses, submittal reviews, and punch lists.
• Develop load calculations, utility assessments, energy models, design reports, code evaluations, plans, P&IDs, specifications, and installation details.
• Coordinate designs with architects, engineers, clients, construction managers, subcontractors, vendors, and manufacturers.
• Lead mechanical staff, perform quality checks, resolve non-compliant conditions, and mentor less experienced engineers and designers.

Requirements

• ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a mechanical focus.
• At least 10 years of professional experience.
• Professional Engineer registration in good standing.
• Advanced experience with engineering calculations and HVAC, mechanical utility, and piping system design and implementation.
• Advanced knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, fire, and building codes.
• Ability to coordinate advanced multidisciplinary projects and lead mechanical design teams.

Nice to have

• Experience in life sciences, pharmaceutical, biotech, laboratory, or food and beverage environments.
• Knowledge of GMP manufacturing environments and standards including ASHRAE, SMACNA, ISPE, FDA, ISO, NFPA, and OSHA.
• Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and sustainable design practices such as LEED or WELL.
• Experience with Revit plugins, Dynamo, Grasshopper, Rhino, plumbing design, and mechanical systems troubleshooting.
• Willingness and ability to travel for client development, project execution, and training.
