Lead Engineer, AI & Process Automation (AI)

Location: Washington, DC; 4 days per week in the office for D.C. and New York employees, or remote

Base salary: $170,000–$190,000 per year, plus benefits and potential annual discretionary incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Identify, scope, build, deploy, and iterate on AI products for Finance, Tax, Human Capital, Legal & Compliance, Marketing & Communications, and other enterprise functions.
• Develop agentic workflows, LLM-powered analytics, document intelligence pipelines, RAG systems, and human-in-the-loop copilots.
• Automate high-volume workflows from intake and data capture through approvals, exceptions, and downstream system integration.
• Define AI architecture, roadmaps, engineering standards, guardrails, evaluation frameworks, and reusable components.
• Partner with infrastructure, data, and security teams on observability, controls, auditability, and enterprise deployment.
• Lead, mentor, hire, and develop AI engineers while contributing to hirify.global’s engineering community and technical strategy.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, mathematics, physics, data science, or a related technical field.
• 7+ years of relevant hands-on engineering experience, including 3+ years building and shipping production AI applications to real users.
• Experience with AI coding agents and developer tools such as Claude Code and Cursor, plus version control, CI/CD, testing, containerization, and cloud deployment.
• Strong coding fundamentals in Python and TypeScript or Java, with experience across data and application stacks including Spark and React.
• Hands-on experience with structured and unstructured data, document intelligence, OCR, LLM-based extraction, and end-to-end workflow automation.
• Experience leading and developing engineers and working directly with business users in regulated or high-stakes environments.
