Sr. Staff Engineer - Java / SpringBoot / AWS - Zelle

Location: Hybrid in Chicago, with positions also located in Scottsdale, San Francisco, or New York; candidates must already be eligible to work in the United States

Salary: $155,000–$215,000 USD per year for Phoenix, AZ and Chicago, IL, plus discretionary incentive plan and benefits.

What you will do

• Shape technical approaches and strategy for broad, complex engineering requirements across multiple teams.
• Lead architecture, design, prototyping, implementation, testing, and deployment of complex distributed solutions.
• Establish department-wide design patterns, coding approaches, engineering standards, tooling, and processes.
• Own features and systems throughout their lifecycle, improving long-term health, scalability, and reliability.
• Partner with product managers, designers, architects, operations, support, and engineering teams to build features and resolve production issues.
• Mentor engineers, lead cross-functional technical initiatives, and resolve technical conflicts across teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 12+ years of relevant experience, including 9+ years developing distributed systems, SaaS, cloud solutions, or microservices.
• 8+ years of hands-on Java and Spring experience, with proficiency in Maven or Gradle.
• Experience with Docker, scalable systems, event-driven architecture, messaging frameworks, and cloud infrastructure.
• Experience delivering business-critical systems and applying CI/CD, testing, secure coding, SDLC, Agile, Scrum, LEAN, and DevOps practices.
• Must independently possess eligibility to work in the United States for any employer; visa sponsorship is not available. Background and drug screening are required.

Nice to have

• Java, SpringBoot, and AWS architecture or migration experience.
• Experience with Aurora, PostgreSQL, MySQL, AppDynamics, Grafana, or Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of ACH/EFT, real-time payment networks such as RTP or FedNow, and fintech.
