Sr. Staff Software Engineer - Commerce - Java/SpringBoot/AWS (FinTech)

Location: San Francisco, United States; hybrid work model. Candidates must independently possess eligibility to work in the United States for any employer at the date of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Base pay: $180,000–$240,000 annually in the San Francisco, CA area, plus eligibility for a discretionary incentive plan and benefits.

What you will do

• Shape technical strategy and architecture for broad, complex commerce and payment requirements.
• Design, prototype, implement, test, and deploy scalable distributed systems and cloud solutions.
• Establish department-wide design patterns and coding approaches, and review output from multiple engineering teams.
• Partner with engineering, product, architecture, design, support, and operations teams to build features and resolve production issues.
• Lead technical planning, decomposition, execution, and cross-functional engineering initiatives.
• Mentor engineers and improve engineering standards, tooling, testing, and development practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 12+ years of relevant experience, including 9+ years developing distributed systems, SaaS, cloud solutions, or microservices.
• 8+ years of Java and Spring experience, with proficiency in Maven or Gradle.
• Experience delivering business-critical systems and designing scalable systems.
• Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging frameworks such as Pub/Sub, Kafka, or RabbitMQ.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, testing, secure coding, SDLC, Agile/Scrum, and DevOps practices; background and drug screening required.

Nice to have

• Commerce, API, payment operations, or checkout system design experience.
• Advanced Java and Spring Boot development, AWS-based application architecture, and hands-on system design and coding.
• Technical leadership, code and design reviews, mentoring, and coordination of engineering activities.
• Knowledge of real-time payment networks such as RTP or FedNow, fintech experience, and Kubernetes experience.
