Senior Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Boston, MA, United States; work from the office 4 days a week with flexibility to work remotely 1 day a week

Base salary: USD 90,000–180,000 per year, plus potential bonus, incentives, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the technical design, development, deployment, and support of the Enterprise Limits & Restrictions platform.
• Develop scalable, reliable, and secure backend services that evaluate regulatory, client, and firmwide restrictions.
• Design and maintain FIX connectivity infrastructure for real-time communication with broker-dealers and trading venues.
• Collaborate with project managers, business analysts, technical leads, quality engineering, Legal and Compliance, Trading, and Investment Technology teams.
• Support tier-1 production systems, troubleshoot complex issues, and improve stability, performance, scalability, and observability.
• Promote engineering excellence through code reviews, mentoring, automated testing, and modern development practices.

Requirements

• 7–10+ years of hands-on software development experience with Java and J2EE; Java 17 is currently used, with Java 11 experience acceptable.
• Strong experience with Spring and Spring Boot.
• Experience with distributed, multithreaded, high-performance, highly available systems.
• Experience designing, developing, and supporting RESTful APIs and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with software development lifecycle methodologies, automated testing, communication, analytical, design, problem-solving, and data modeling skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Nice to have

• AWS cloud technologies and CI/CD pipelines, including Jenkins.
• Complex event processing with the Esper Framework.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code.
