Principal Software Engineer (Ecommerce)

Location: San Francisco, California, with a hybrid work model. Positions in Scottsdale, San Francisco, Chicago, and New York follow a hybrid schedule. Candidates must independently possess eligibility to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: $207,000–$276,000 USD per year in San Francisco, plus eligibility for a discretionary incentive plan and benefits.

What you will do

• Partner with product management to shape product strategy, descriptions, and technology-roadmap alignment.
• Design technical products, architectures, and end-to-end application and service solutions.
• Apply cloud, containerization, CI/CD, automated testing, operational readiness, and self-service principles.
• Set engineering standards, provide technical leadership, and influence cross-functional teams.
• Coach and mentor engineers, conduct presentations, and lead code and design reviews.
• Work with customers, engineering, product, and architecture teams to improve payment and ecommerce products.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years of experience designing and developing complex software projects, including 8+ years in fintech.
• Experience implementing cloud application solutions with containerization, CI/CD, automated testing, and security guidelines.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java, RESTful web services, Spring Boot, microservices, messaging frameworks, and end-to-end system design.
• Experience with AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure; test automation; OOA/OOD; Git; Maven; Jenkins; Jira; and related engineering tools.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States for any employer at the date of hire; employment visa sponsorship is unavailable.

Nice to have

• Commerce, APIs, payment operations, or checkout system design experience.
• Advanced Java and Spring/Spring Boot development and AWS-based application architecture.
• Technical leadership, planning, decomposition, execution, mentoring, and coordination without formal people-management responsibility.
• Knowledge of real-time payment networks such as RTP and FedNow.
• Kubernetes experience.
