Substation Project Engineer (PE) (Electrical Engineering)

Location: Las Vegas, Nevada, or Phoenix, Arizona; preference for candidates local to these areas. Site visits and some travel may be required.

Salary: $80,640–$115,200 annually in Las Vegas, Nevada.

What you will do

• Develop substation physical layouts, material lists, conduit and cable sizing and routing, grounding designs, and major equipment wiring diagrams.
• Prepare engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, reports, and electrical designs for low-, medium-, and high-voltage substations.
• Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and factory acceptance testing.
• Coordinate designs with civil, structural, transmission line, and other departments.
• Assign tasks, mentor junior engineers and designers, and coordinate quality control reviews.
• Perform site visits during design, construction, and as-built project phases.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an electrical emphasis preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license required.
• At least five years of substation design experience and previous project execution experience in the Power Market Sector.
• Experience with substation layouts, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, conduit plans, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, and bills of material.
• Computer skills with Microsoft Office and power-sector design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, CDEGS, PLS CAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, or Revit.

Nice to have

• Experience with an architecture, engineering, or engineering consulting firm.
• Consulting or electric utility experience.
